——— Update :
Here’s our UPDATED plan for the “Hike and Hunt” at O’Neil Regional Parkl
We will meet 9am Saturday April 7 at Community Lutheran Church, 30322 Via Con Dios, Rancho Santa Margarita, CA and leave at 9:15am for a 1.8 mile hike to main camp site. Parent can drop campers/ hikers here- we encourage carpool if possible. We will provide you GPS coordinate and compass heading so we can hike/ backpack to campsite. Adult drivers will carry supplies to O’Neil Regional Park.Parking at camp site is limited to 10 cars for overnight campers only, non-overnight entrance are $5 each car to be park at nearby area in the park.
Lunch from 11am-12:30 pm with ham sandwich, tuna sandwich, chips, drinks. From 1pm-3pm, we’ll play “Hike and Hunt” with GPS and compass so please bring your phone and compass. We will provide an item to each patrol to go hike and place this item “anywhere within the park” and record the GPS coordinate of the location and start using compass to record direction back to main camp. Once back to main camp, each patrol will exchange GPS coordinate and compass record of the item you placed with the other patrols so they can go search for that item while you search for their item (kind of similar toGeocaching.com).
From 3pm-5pm, Tr Victor is looking into Geocaching.com to see if there’s any other hunt in the area that we can go look for OR we can add our own to Geocaching.com. All the young Truong and Crew are welcome to plan more activities during this time or we will have back up plan for more game.
Dinner begins from 5pm-6:30pm with taco (soft/ hard) and burrito, snack then start campfire 7pm-9pm. You can leave after camp fire or stay for overnight camp.
If staying overnight, we’ll have breakfast burritos or toast and eggs on Sun at 8am before breaking camp and leave at 10am. Parents can pick up campers at parking outside the gate of O’Neil Regional Park at exactly 10am Sunday April 8– again we encourage carpool if possible.
Fee: $10 Camp Fee & Food fee to be paid to Tr Peter at Scout meeting on Sat March 31. Cooking and first aid merit badge will be offered by Tr Phillip so please email Tr Philip and Tr Peter for more information.
Everyone, please register here so we can plan tent and food @ Google sign up sheet:
To ensure everyone can participate in game, use these instruction to download “offline” Google map to your phone so you can use the map if no phone signal. Zoom in the map so you can see all of “O’Neil Regional Park” before download so you don’t download a larger map- what you see is all of it will be downloaded.
Please pack your personal belonging for day hike/ camp fire (water, hat, warm clothes) or overnight camp (warm cloth, sleeping bag, hygiene kit). We will provide tents, refill water, and food. If anyone have any questions, please email me.
